Who are you?IMG_6501
I’m a Charlottesville portrait and wedding photographer, taking photos all over the Central Virginia region.  I work in both digital and film formats (35mm and medium-format), developing and printing black & whites in my darkroom, fiddling with toy cameras (like these), and always trying something new.  If you’ve looked at my photos, you’ll know I work to capture honest moments, big and small, in a relaxed setting.

What is your style?
It’s hard to quantify what one’s own style is, but here goes.  I take a documentary, analog approach to photography.  I love the look of film but am also aware of how useful and important digital cameras are to getting the right shot.  I’ll mix both digital with film, typography with photography, incorporating some graphic design for fun when it fits.  My style is constantly evolving as I learn new techniques and discover new faces.  It is safe to say that if we work together, we will create an honest session together full of real moments that last a lifetime.

What are your rates?
Commissions for weddings start at $2400.  Portrait sessions start at $300.  Contact me for a full pricing sheet.

Are all of our photos edited?
Absolutely.  All photos delivered are high-resolution images that have been individually edited.  Here’s how they come.

Do we own the photos?
Once you receive the images, you have full reproduction rights and are free to print, share, post, etc.

Where do you shoot?
I can recommend some beautiful spaces in the Fredericksburg and NOVA/DC-area, indoor and out.  But all portrait sessions are at a location of your ultimate choosing.  I’ve put together a stylebook to help answer more specific engagement and wedding photography questions.

What should we wear?
Ultimately it is up to you, but you can check out my “What to Wear” board for ideas.  I recommend dressing in a general color scheme, avoiding extreme colors, prints and logos on your clothing.

Can my cousin take photos during the wedding?
Sure.  As long as they stay a guest and not a second shooter.  If you want more information on “unplugged” weddings, this is a great post from another photographer explaining why guests should stay guests.

How do we book and pay?
Portrait sessions are paid in full at the time of the session.  An $800 retainer is required for weddings to secure a date.  I accept cash, check or PayPal.

What if something goes wrong?
I bring two of everything (or more), back up all of my images, and am fully insured.
